The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini

This film from 1966 was the seventh (and last) of the American International Pictures beach party films, but the entire film takes place around a haunted house with no beach in sight! The teen gang instead cavorts at an adjacent swimming pool. The unbelievable cast includes Boris Karloff, Basil Rathbone, Nancy Sinatra, Tommy Kirk, The Booby Fuller Four and Harvey Lembeck as Eric Von Zipper. Dedicated beach party stars Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello had nothing to do with this stinker. Boris and Basil ham it up for all they’re worth. A gorilla named Monstro, rubber-suited monsters, and a ghost in an invisible bikini are more silly than scary. Perfect for a stormy summer night!

Film archivist extrordinaire, Steven Mayerson will present appropriately weird and loopy cartoons and shorts before the feature.

Also stay the first chapter of the campy serial, The Lost City from 1935. It’s one of the greatest serials ever made, if anything for its sheer lunacy. A mad scientist in a secret city in a hidden magnetic mountain in deepest, darkest Africa can hurl thunderbolts across the planet, sink ships, cause earthquakes, turn pygmys into giant zombies and black men into white! The technical crew included the cinematographer from King Kong, the art director from Flash Gordon and the special effects man from Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.
