Race 2000
Some
of the actors from the illustrious Oregon Shakespeare
Festival have had sordid pasts. One of the most
beloved actors, Sandy McCallum is one of those.
He will make a special in-person appearance to share
his bad Hollywood experiences in films like Sextette
with Mae West. He appeared with David Carradine
and Sylvester Stallone in the feature presentation
of Roger Corman’s Death Race 2000 directed
by Paul Bartel.
Originally
released in 1975, the film portrays the future of
the year 2000. The national sport has cross- country
drivers in outrageously tacky costumes and cheesy
racecars score points by wiping pedestrians off
the road! This solution to the population problem
is a barbaric cartoon come to life. The script constantly
blames the French for all that is wrong in the world.
“Euthanasia Day at the Hospital!” is
a timely sequence in this severely silly and flamboyant
satire. David Carradine’s character is named
Frankenstein since he’s had so many limbs
replaced. Pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone plays his
skanky arch enemy. Sandy McCallum has a key role
as the President of the United States! Sandy has
never bothered to watch the film! Let’s see
if he can sit through it now! More
about Sandy McCallum's visit ...
The
evening will begin with choice animation, coming
attractions and rarities from the vast archives
of local collector Steven Mayerson. |
