Danger
Diabolik
THE BAD FILM SOCIETY PRESENTS A VERY DIFFERENT
BREED OF TURKEY!
The feature will be the kitsch, cult and pop art
classic, Danger: Diabolik. It’s a super-weird
film based on an Italian comic book that was a
total flop when it was released in the US in 1967
to capitalize on the spy craze and the Batman TV
show.
It was shot at the same time with some of
the same cast and crew as Barbarella. John Philip
Law plays Diabolik, a dreaded anarchistic thief
whose sole aim is to wreak as much havoc as possible
on the entire government for his own pleasure and
amusement. He’s got a black leather suit
and mask and gadgets galore.
Together with his
ravishing and curvaceous girlfriend Eva, the delicious
duo are sexier than Batman and Robin and more ruthless
than Bonnie and Clyde. As the perilous pair swing
their way through the psychedelic sixties in sleek
white jaguars, hiding from the Mafioso and cops
in their glitzy, grotto of a lair, no one can argue
that they don’t dodge the law with innate
panache.
The evening will begin with bizarre and extraordinary
shorts presented by zany film archivist Steven
Mayerson.
Also stay tuned for the 13th episode of the serial
The Lost Planet
from 1953!
On the par with an Ed
Wood movie, it’s considered the worst serial
ever made with
unintentionally hilarious dialogue like "How
are we going to find it,
it's the Lost Planet." It was the last sci-fi
serial ever made…for good
reason. |
